Graincorp, a leading bulk grain trading company in Eastern Australia, has successfully procured a total of 8.47 million tons (84.70 lakh tons) of grain so far in the current marketing season. Last week, the company added 1.8 million tons to its procurement.
The company reports that the preparation for the harvesting of winter crops in Queensland is nearly complete, with small amounts still being delivered from regions like Darling Downs and Goondiwindi.
In northern New South Wales, clear skies and a slight increase in temperatures have contributed to a rise in crop readiness and delivery, particularly in Dubbo and Verris Creek areas.
Harvesting has also started in other parts of the state and is expected to accelerate. In the southern parts of New South Wales, harvesting preparations are well underway, with significant quantities of grain being delivered, including 180,000 tons in a single day.
In Victoria, harvesting activities have also started, with the pace of grain supply picking up. Australian farmers are focusing on the harvest and sale of crops such as wheat, barley, sorghum, gram, and canola, while lentils and peas are behind in their harvest schedules.
By 25 November 2024, Graincorp had procured a total of 8.47 million tons of grain across three states: 1.68 million tons in Queensland, 5.71 million tons in New South Wales, and 1.09 million tons in Victoria.
On 25 November alone, 1.8 million tons of grain was procured. The trend of increasing procurement is expected to continue in the coming weeks.
