Groundnut Sowing Assessment: Nationwide Increase Led by Gujarat and Rajasthan
★ India has recorded a notable rise in groundnut (peanut) sowing this year. According to data from the Ministry of Agriculture and state departments, total groundnut sowing across the country reached 32.99 lakh hectares between 11–16 July 2025, up from 28.04 lakh hectares during the same period last year — an increase of 4.95 lakh hectares.
★ Rajasthan and Gujarat have played a major role in this surge.
★ In Rajasthan, sowing rose from 6.70 lakh hectares to 8.60 lakh hectares — a growth of 1.90 lakh hectares.
★ Gujarat also saw an increase from 17.22 lakh hectares to 18.50 lakh hectares, marking a rise of 1.28 lakh hectares.
However, some states witnessed a decline:
★ Andhra Pradesh recorded a drop of 0.65 lakh hectares.
★ Karnataka saw a decrease of 0.50 lakh hectares.
★ Maharashtra reported a reduction of 0.30 lakh hectares.
★ The combined sowing in five major states — Maharashtra, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, and Rajasthan — reached 29.81 lakh hectares, which is 1.73 lakh hectares more than last year.
★ Favorable monsoon conditions and supportive market prices have contributed to the surge in sowing in several regions.
★ Sowing trends in the coming weeks will provide a clearer picture.
