Gujarat Kharif Area Reaches 83.04 Lakh Hectares

New Delhi. The production area of Kharif crops in Gujarat has increased from 82.68 lakh hectares last year to 83.04 lakh hectares this time, but there are reports of damage to crops due to rain and floods in some districts.
According to official data, compared to last year, during the current Kharif season, the production area of paddy in Gujarat reached 8.85 lakh hectares, while the area of maize fell from 2.85 lakh hectares to 2.81 lakh hectares and the sowing area of sorghum decreased from 19 thousand hectares to 11 thousand hectares.
The production area of pulses crops increased from 3.86 lakh hectares to 4.42 lakh hectares. Under this, the production area of Arhar (Tuvar) jumped from 2.27 lakh hectare to 2.91 lakh hectare but the sowing area of Moong decreased from 55 thousand hectare to 48 thousand hectare and the area of Urad decreased from 84 thousand hectare to 83 thousand hectare.
The production area of oilseed crops jumped from 28.08 lakh hectare to 31.44 lakh hectare. Under this, the sowing area of groundnut increased from 19.10 lakh hectare to 22.02 lakh hectare and the area of Castor increased from 5.47 lakh hectare to 6.24 lakh hectare while the area of sesame fell from 49 thousand hectare to 41 thousand hectare and the sowing area of soybean decreased from 3 lakh hectare to 2.78 hectare.
Similarly, the production area of cotton fell from 23.63 lakh hectares to 20.81 lakh hectares and the sowing area of Guar fell from 82 thousand hectares to 74 thousand hectares.
