Gujarat Releases First Advance Estimate of Kharif Production

Gandhinagar. The sowing campaign of Kharif crops in the western state of the country - Gujarat is almost over and the crops are now going through various stages of development. Meanwhile, the State Agriculture Department has released the first advance estimate of production of Kharif crops.
Under this, the production of some crops is expected to decrease and the production of some other crops is expected to increase this time as compared to the final production estimate of 2024.
According to official data, during the current Kharif season, compared to last year, rice production in Gujarat is expected to increase from 21.59 lakh tonnes to 22.25 lakh tonnes, maize production is expected to jump from 4.21 lakh tonnes to 5.33 lakh tonnes,
while the production of jowar is likely to fall from 26 thousand tonnes to 23 thousand tonnes, millet production is likely to fall from 3.10 lakh tonnes to 3.03 lakh tonnes and the production of ragi is likely to slip from 8 thousand tonnes to 7 thousand tonnes.
Similarly, in the category of pulses crops, the production of Arhar (Tuvar) is expected to increase from 3.08 lakh tons last year to 3.60 lakh tons this time and the production of Urad is expected to improve from 47 thousand tons to 54 thousand tons,
whereas the production of Moong is likely to fall from 33 thousand tons to 30 thousand tons and the production of Moth is likely to slip from 9 thousand tons to 7 thousand tons.
In the oilseed crops, the production of groundnut is estimated to jump from 50.85 lakh tons last year to 66.090 lakh tons this time and the production of castor is expected to increase from 14.03 lakh tons to 14.35 lakh tons and the production of sesame is expected to remain stable at last year's 22 thousand tons,
but the production of soybean is expected to decrease from 5.10 lakh tons and get stuck at 4.70 lakh tons. Apart from this, the production area of cotton in Gujarat is estimated to increase from 71.50 lakh bales (each bale of 170 kg) last year to 73.31 lakh bales this time, while the production of guar is likely to fall from 62 thousand tons to 60 thousand tons.
It is worth mentioning that Gujarat is the leading producer of groundnut, cotton and castor. Some of its areas are still facing floods, due to which there is a possibility of damage to the crops.
