New Delhi: Torrential rains, hailstorms, and severe storms have caused widespread damage to Rabi crops in many areas of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, along with significant loss of life and property.
Fields are flooded and crops flattened, while the temperature has dropped sharply. Hailstorms have intensified the damage, especially to wheat, lentils, and mustard crops.
In Uttar Pradesh, initial assessments report 22 human casualties and 28 animal deaths. The state government has ordered an immediate survey of affected areas.
All District Magistrates, SDMs, and Tehsildars have been directed to conduct a detailed field assessment and submit reports within 24 hours.
The Chief Minister has warned that any negligence in the compensation process will lead to strict action against responsible officials.
The Relief and Revenue Departments, along with insurance companies, will provide compensation to farmers whose crops have suffered more than 33% damage.
An alert has also been issued urging residents to remain indoors due to the risk of further severe weather.
In Bihar, similar weather conditions have caused substantial damage to Rabi crops, with wheat and lentils being the worst affected.
Officials fear heavy casualties and extensive losses, and damage assessments are currently underway.
