Sowing
★ According to the Agriculture Departments and the Ministry of Agriculture (Government of India), as of 13 August 2025, maize sowing across the country has increased compared to last year.
★ By 13.08.25, Andhra Pradesh recorded 1.26 lakh hectares, higher by 0.27 lakh hectares from last year.
★ By 11.08.25, Gujarat reported 2.72 lakh hectares, lower by 0.12 lakh hectares compared to last year.
★ By 25.07.25, Karnataka had 16.28 lakh hectares under maize, an increase of 1.68 lakh hectares from the previous year.
★ By 11.08.25, Maharashtra reported 14.12 lakh hectares, 3.15 lakh hectares higher than last year.
★ By 14.08.25, Rajasthan recorded 9.84 lakh hectares, an increase of 0.22 lakh hectares from the previous year.
★ By 13.08.25, Telangana covered 5.96 lakh hectares, 1.75 lakh hectares higher than last year.
★ The total for these six states stood at 50.18 lakh hectares, compared to 43.23 lakh hectares last year – a rise of 6.95 lakh hectares.
★ As per official data, by 08.08.25, total maize sowing in India reached 91.89 lakh hectares, while it was 83.15 lakh hectares last year. Thus, an overall increase of 8.74 lakh hectares has been recorded.

Crop condition
★ Higher prices and strong demand have encouraged farmers to expand maize acreage, while favorable weather is supporting the crop.
★ Record production is expected in the ongoing Kharif season.
★ Pre-harvest demand is already driving prices upward.

Market prices
★ Compared to 6 August, by 16 August maize rose by Rs. 175 in Delhi-UP line to Rs. 2,400 per quintal.
★ In Etah, prices surged by Rs. 200 to Rs. 2,150 per quintal.
★ In Purnia market, maize remained steady at Rs. 2,350 per quintal.

Outlook
★ Until the arrival of the new crop (expected in 1 to 1.5 months), market prices are likely to remain supported.
★ However, once the new crop comes in, strong downward pressure on prices is expected.
