No possibility of decline
New Delhi. For some time, the prices of fennel were being quoted softly due to low export and local demand. But during the current week, due to increased demand from exporters and reduced arrivals in the markets, prices have strengthened. Sources believe that export activities are likely to be good in the coming days, due to which there is no possibility of a decline in prices. Prices are expected to remain high in the coming days. Traders say that there is a possibility of increase in export trade after July 15.
Inflow decreased
The daily arrival of fennel in the major producing state Gujarat and Gujarat's markets has started decreasing. Because most of the goods have already arrived in the markets. Currently, the daily arrival of fennel in Gujarat's major Unjha market has decreased to 2000/2500 bags. Whereas in Nagaur Merta Mandi of Rajasthan, the arrival is of 1000/1200 bags.
Yield
During the current season, the production of fennel in the country has been less than last year. Because due to record production of fennel in the country during the year 2024, the producers did not get a fair price for their produce, due to which there was a decrease in the area of sowing. As a result, the production of fennel in the country during 2025 was estimated to be 18/20 lakh bags (each bag 55 kg). While in the year 2024 the production was 38/40 lakh bags, in the year 2023 the production was considered to be 20/22 lakh bags.
Export price
Due to weak export demand, the export price of fennel during the month of June was running at the minimum level of Rs 78/79 per kg. Due to improved buying recently, the export price has increased to Rs 81/82 per kg. It is worth mentioning that during the month of April, the export price was being quoted at Rs 113/114.
No slowdown
There is no possibility of slowdown in the current prices of fennel. Although during the current season, only 50 percent of the fennel production took place in the country, but due to record production last year, the outstanding stock was sufficient, due to which the prices remained slow. Currently, the average quality price of fennel in the markets of the producing centers is being quoted at Rs 80/110 per kg and the price of light goods is Rs 70/95 per kg. Sources believe that after the increase in export demand in the coming days, trade estimates are being made that the prices will rise by Rs 8/10 per kg.
Record export
Due to record production of fennel in the country during the year 2024, the prices of fennel were quoted slow. Due to the sluggish prices, a good increase of 94 percent was registered in exports. But due to low export prices, the income increased by only 14 percent. According to the data released by the Spices Board, during the year 2024-25, the export of fennel was 76586 tonnes and the income received from export was Rs 765.44 crore. Whereas during the year 2023-24, the export of fennel was 39564 tonnes and the income received from export was Rs 669.60 crore. It is noteworthy that earlier during the year 2020-21, the highest export of fennel was 40139 tonnes.
