In view of the falling market price, the sale of red chilli producers of Andhra Pradesh is weak

The falling market prices of red chili in Guntur, Andhra Pradesh, are posing significant challenges for producers. Guntur, which is one of the largest markets for red chili in Asia, is experiencing weak demand both domestically and from major importing countries like China, Bangladesh, Vietnam, and Malaysia.

This has led to a decline in prices, causing concern among farmers who were hoping to sell their stock at higher prices by the end of the year.

Currently, there is a large stockpile of red chili in Guntur's cold storage facilities, with over 39.63 lakh bags stored—7 lakh more than in December 2023.

Farmers are opting to hold onto their stock, hoping that prices will rise, although this strategy comes with the challenge of having to continue paying for cold storage rent.

Many producers are facing financial pressures as they had planned to sell their chili to meet their needs but are now finding it difficult due to the price decline to the lowest levels of the year.

Additionally, the supply from neighboring regions such as Telangana is adding further pressure to the market, increasing competition and keeping prices low.

Experts predict that while prices may remain stable in the short term, there is potential for a rise if export demand picks up.

The winter season often leads to increased domestic demand, particularly in North India, which could help boost prices.

However, the current situation remains challenging, and the Andhra Pradesh government is considering measures to assist the producers.

For now, the focus is on balancing supply and demand, managing the stockpile, and navigating financial pressures due to storage costs.

The hope is that a rebound in demand, especially from exports or seasonal domestic consumption, could offer relief in the coming weeks.
