Increase Expected in Urad (Black Matpe) Imports in India for FY 2024-25
★ According to data, India is expected to import 8,23,805 metric tons of urad (black matpe) in FY 2024-25, which is 1,99,583 metric tons more than last year’s 6,24,222 metric tons.
★ Data under HS Code 07133110 shows that this year's imports will also be around 3 lakh metric tons higher than in FY 2022-23, when the country imported 5,24,813 metric tons of urad.
★ Monthly projections indicate that the highest imports may occur in October 2024, January 2025, and March 2025, with estimated volumes of 76,313, 76,284, and 82,453 metric tons respectively.
★ Compared to previous years, these projections are significantly higher:
- FY 2022-23: 5,24,813 metric tons  
- FY 2021-22: 6,11,611 metric tons  
- FY 2020-21: 3,44,790 metric tons  
- FY 2019-20: 3,12,078 metric tons
