Increase in Rice Exports
★ From April 1, 2024, to March 25, 2025, India’s total rice exports stood at 19.865 million tonnes. This included 5.944 million tonnes of Basmati rice, 9.044 million tonnes of parboiled rice, 3.323 million tonnes of non-Basmati white rice, 0.795 million tonnes of broken rice, and 0.759 million tonnes of other rice varieties.
★ In the financial year 2023–24, India had exported a total of 16.358 million tonnes of rice, which included 0.549 million tonnes of Basmati rice. Other categories included 7.57 million tonnes of parboiled rice, 2.36 million tonnes of non-Basmati white rice, 0.549 million tonnes of broken rice, and 0.636 million tonnes of other rice varieties.
★ India produces approximately 5 to 6 million tonnes of broken rice annually. Broken rice is mainly used in poultry feed, animal feed, and as a feedstock by grain-based distilleries for ethanol production.
★ The ethanol produced is then supplied to oil marketing companies (OMCs) for blending with petrol, which benefits these industries.
