India Exports Over 287,000 Tonnes of Sugar Till April 8, 2025: AISTA
★ India has exported 2,87,204 tonnes of sugar as of April 8, 2025, in the 2024–25 sugar marketing year, which runs from October to September. Export permissions were granted starting January 20, 2025, with a total export quota of 1 million tonnes.
★ Top Sugar Export Destinations:
Somalia: 51,596 tonnes
Afghanistan: 48,864 tonnes
Sri Lanka: 46,757 tonnes
Libya: 30,729 tonnes
Djibouti: 27,064 tonnes
UAE: 21,834 tonnes
Tanzania: 21,141 tonnes
Bangladesh: 5,589 tonnes
China: 5,427 tonnes
Additionally, 17,837 tonnes are currently under loading.
★ The All India Sugar Trade Association (AISTA) noted that the pace of exports is "slow but expected to pick up" in the coming month. It also highlighted that declining crude oil prices could influence sugar prices, as ethanol (a sugar by-product) plays a key role in transportation fuel.
★ India had restricted sugar exports during the previous 2023–24 cycle but remains one of the world’s leading sugar producers.
