India likely to see a decline in lentil imports in FY 2024-25
★ According to the latest data, India is expected to import 12,86,535 metric tons of lentils (HS Code 07134000) in the financial year 2024-25. This is a decrease of 3,89,559.8 metric tons compared to the previous year 2023-24, when the country imported 16,76,095 metric tons.
★ However, the estimated import for 2024-25 is still higher than in 2022-23 and 2021-22.
★ In FY 2022-23, India imported 8,58,438 metric tons of lentils, and in FY 2021-22, the figure stood at 6,67,431 metric tons.
★ Heavy imports are expected in the months of January, February, and March 2025:
January – 2,34,326 metric tons
February – 1,51,373 metric tons
March – 1,68,413 metric tons
★ Comparison with previous years:
FY 2020-21 – 11,16,174 metric tons
FY 2019-20 – 8,54,460 metric tons
★ Year-on-year comparison:
