India – Sharp Rise in Edible Oil Imports in June: Sources
★ Palm oil imports in June reached an 11-month high, rising 61% month-on-month to 953,000 metric tonnes.
★ This surge is attributed to low domestic stocks and a $100/ton price advantage over soybean and sunflower oil.
★ Soybean oil imports fell 9% to 363,000 metric tonnes, while sunflower oil imports rose 18% to 216,000 metric tonnes.
★ Total edible oil imports jumped 30% month-on-month to 1.53 million metric tonnes — the highest since November.
★ Palm oil prices are expected to remain firm due to competitive pricing and higher output in Indonesia and Malaysia.
★ Nepal’s edible oil imports declined to 75,000 metric tonnes in June, down from 155,000 metric tonnes in May.
