India’s sugar production is progressing at a satisfactory pace in the current season. Output so far is higher than the same period last year, providing relief to the market in terms of overall availability.
The country’s three major sugar-producing states—Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, and Karnataka—continue to lead national production. Together, these states have produced around 141 lakh metric tonnes of sugar so far, accounting for nearly 89% of total production.
Other sugar-producing states have collectively contributed about 18 lakh metric tonnes, ensuring wider regional participation and support to farmers across the country.
At the all-India level, sugar production has reached approximately 159 lakh metric tonnes, with the average recovery rate at around 9.01%.
Importantly, about 9 lakh metric tonnes of sugar has been diverted for ethanol production, supporting timely payments to farmers, balancing sugar supplies, and strengthening India’s ethanol blending programme.
