Indian Black Pepper Trade Under Pressure
★ Indian black pepper trade is under pressure due to rains and cheaper imports.
★ Floods and heavy rains in North India have weakened demand.
★ Prices at Kochi terminal market fell by ₹15/kg last week.
★ Ungarbled is quoted at ₹686/kg and garbled at ₹706/kg.
★ Cheaper black pepper imports from Brazil have further reduced demand.
★ Buying remains sluggish ahead of the festive season.
★ Demand is expected to pick up from October 2 with the onset of Navratri.
★ International prices (in $/ton):
• Vietnam – $6,700
• Brazil – $6,400
• Indonesia – $7,400
• Sri Lanka – $7,400
★ Indian black pepper is the costliest at $8,100/ton.
★ High prices have also weakened export demand.
