India's offer most attractive in Bangladesh's rice import tender

The recent rice import tender issued by Bangladesh's government grain procurement agency reveals that India's offer is currently the most attractive.
India proposed a price of $434.77 per ton, which includes shipment charges on a liner-out basis. This price was submitted by a leading business establishment and is under consideration, although no purchase contract has been signed yet.
Bangladesh's need for rice imports comes as a result of decreased rice production within the country, coupled with high domestic prices.
To secure food security and bolster its buffer stock, the government decided to import rice at the national level, while also allowing private traders to import rice at concessional customs duties.
Since India and Bangladesh share a common border, multiple transportation routes, including land, rail, and water, are available for the export of goods, with sea routes through the Chittagong and Mongla ports being the primary channels for rice imports.
Bangladesh is closely examining the offers and is expected to announce the final decision soon. In a previous tender, India also won with a competitive price, and rice shipments have already begun.
India has sufficient rice stocks to meet both domestic and international demands, which further strengthens its position in this tender.
