International Corn Market
According to the Crop Progress Report, as of April 20, 12% of the U.S. corn crop has been planted, which is ahead of the 5-year average of 10% for this date. The emergence rate is 2%, which is in line with the normal pace.
Export Inspection data shows that during the week ending April 17, the U.S. exported 1.702 million metric tons (67.04 million bushels) of corn. This was down 6.95% from the previous week, but 2.49% higher than the same week in 2024 — making it the largest export figure for this week since 2018.
By country, Mexico received 490,398 MT, Japan 437,602 MT, and South Korea 206,613 MT.
Since the beginning of the marketing year (September 1), total exports have reached 39.22 MMT (1.544 billion bushels), which is 28.97% higher than the same period last year.
According to Friday’s CFTC report, as of April 15, speculative funds increased their net long position in corn futures and options by 70,997 contracts, bringing the total net long position to 124,573 contracts.
