According to the Crop Progress report released Monday afternoon, planting progress in Illinois (IL), Indiana (IN), Kentucky (KY), North Carolina (NC), Tennessee (TN), and Wisconsin (WI) is behind the 5-year average pace.
In contrast, Iowa (IA) has completed 18% planting (average is 7%) and Nebraska (NE) is at 8% (average is 5%). Nationally, planting is still 2 percentage points ahead of normal.
Corn emergence is reported at 2%, which is in line with the average.
Although planting progress is ahead of schedule, recent rains and forecasts of wet weather across the Plains to the Mississippi River region in the coming week may slow down progress.
Weather conditions in Brazil have recently improved. Dr. Michael Cordonnier has raised Brazil’s corn production estimate by 3 million metric tons to 125 million metric tons. Argentina’s expected production has also been raised by 2 million metric tons to 48 million metric tons.
