USDA Export Report: Private export sales of 150,000 metric tons of corn to Colombia for the 2024/25 marketing year were reported this morning.
Managed Fund Activity:
Speculative funds (spec funds) and managed funds in corn futures and options reduced their net long positions by 6,475 contracts, bringing their total to 159,415 contracts as of December 17.
Commercial traders expanded their net short position by 10,590 contracts, reaching 396,690 contracts.
Export Shipments:
Accumulated shipments are now at 13.621 million metric tons (MMT), reflecting a 31% increase from the previous year and accounting for 22% of USDA's annual export projection. This is ahead of the 19% average pace for this time of year.
Total commitments, including unshipped sales, are at 36.313 MMT, up 29% year-over-year. This equates to 58% of the USDA’s annual estimate, surpassing the average pace of 55%.
The strong year-over-year increase in shipments and commitments suggests robust demand, while fund positioning adjustments reflect cautious trading sentiment amidst these dynamics.
