ICE cotton futures ended Friday with losses of 10 to 13 points, although the December contract was still up 126 points for the week. Crude oil futures fell by 21 cents per barrel, and the US dollar index dropped by $0.236 to $98.210.
Weekly CFTC data showed speculative traders reduced their net short position in cotton futures and options by 7,626 contracts. As of July 15, the total net short stood at 38,464 contracts.
The Seam reported sales of 385 bales on Thursday, with an average price of 68.25 cents per pound. The Cotlook A Index was unchanged at 79.30 cents on July 17. On the same day, ICE cotton stocks saw 1,144 bales decertified, leaving certified stocks at 23,481 bales. USDA’s Adjusted World Price (AWP) rose slightly on Thursday to 54.72 cents per pound.
