International Cotton Market
ICE cotton futures were down 64 to 83 points in Friday’s session, with the December contract falling 147 points this week. The US Dollar Index rose by $0.042 on the day to $97.780, while crude oil futures were down $0.55. Markets will be closed on Monday for the Labor Day holiday and reopen normally on Tuesday.
CFTC Commitment of Traders data showed managed money adding 3,614 contracts to their net short position in cotton futures and options, bringing it to 59,931 contracts as of August 26.
According to USDA, accumulated cotton export sales commitments stand at 3.412 million running bales, down 23% from last year. That is 30% of the USDA export projection and behind the 47% average sales pace.
The Cotlook A Index was unchanged at 78.20 cents on August 28. ICE certified cotton stocks were steady at 15,474 bales on August 28. USDA’s Adjusted World Price fell 59 points on Thursday to 54.94 cents per lb.
