International Cotton Market
ICE cotton futures closed 8 to 25 points higher on Tuesday. The US dollar index rose $0.323 to 97.735, while crude oil futures were up $0.51.
Crop Progress data showed 97% of the US cotton crop had set bolls by Sunday, with 40% of bolls opened. Harvest progress was 8% complete, 2 points ahead of normal. Among the 15 reporting states, only Texas showed harvest progress, at 19% complete, which was 6% ahead of average. Cotton condition ratings improved 3% to 54% good-to-excellent, with the Brugler500 index rising 5 points to 349. By state, Texas improved by 8 points, while Georgia slipped 5 points.
The Seam reported sales of 1,368 bales on Monday at an average price of 62.83 cents/lb. The Cotlook A Index was down 20 points to 77.40 cents on September 8. ICE certified cotton stocks were steady at 15,474 bales on September 9. USDA’s Adjusted World Price (AWP) was cut another 63 points last Thursday to 54.31 cents/lb.
