International Soybean Market
Export Sales data for the week ending August 21 showed old crop net reductions of 189,184 MT, on the lower side of estimates ranging from reductions of 200,000 MT to sales of 50,000 MT. Many reported sales were switched from previous unknown destinations.
New crop sales were reported at 1.373 MMT, the highest of the marketing year, well above trade estimates of 0.45 to 1 MMT, and up 20.1% from last week. The largest buyer was unknown destinations with 690,000 MT, followed by Mexico with 315,800 MT.
Soybean meal sales totaled 262,047 MT across both marketing years, within the estimate range of 125,000 to 450,000 MT. Of this, 47,277 MT were for the current marketing year and 214,770 MT for the next year. Soybean oil sales were 18,485 MT, above trade expectations of 0 to 14,000 MT.
Monthly crush data will be released next Tuesday due to the holiday. Analysts expect 207.1 mbu of soybeans were crushed in July, with estimates ranging from 204.8 to 212 mbu. Soybean oil stocks are projected at 1.895 billion lbs.
Statistics Canada estimates the country’s soybean crop at 7.016 MMT, down 7.3% from last year. Canola production is estimated at 19.94 MMT, up 3.6% from last year, though below expectations of 20.3 MMT.
