The 7-day weather forecast indicates widespread rainfall is expected across the Southern Plains, with heavier precipitation likely in the eastern part.
According to the Commitment of Traders data, spec traders in Chicago wheat futures and options held a net short position of 108,893 contracts as of May 20, down 18,002 contracts from the previous week. In Kansas City wheat, managed money held a net short of 80,162 contracts, a reduction of 637 contracts from the previous record.
Export sales data shows wheat commitments at 21.682 MMT, representing 97% of USDA’s forecast, which lags behind the 105% average pace for this time of year. New crop total sales have reached 4.18 MMT, the highest for this week since the 2013/14 season.
According to FranceAgriMer, 71% of the French wheat crop is rated good to excellent, down from 73% the previous week.
