New Delhi. Indian Vegetable Oil Producers Association (IVPA), an important organization of the indigenous vegetable oil industry and trade sector, has said in a letter sent to its members that the Legal Metrology Division on behalf of the Central Consumer Affairs Department is related to the declaration of revised retail selling price (MRP) on their unsold stock by manufacturers, packers or importers.
The letter dated 9 September 2025 states that using the powers conferred under the rules of Legal Metrology (Packaged Commodities) Rules, 2011, the Central Government has allowed packers, manufacturers and importers to declare revised MRP on unsold stock before the amendment in GST.
This revised price should be visible as an increase or reduction in tax due to the change in GST and this declaration (display) can be done by stamping, labeling and online printing in the following important situations.
The original MRP should be clearly visible and the revised price should not be crossed out or overlaid. The original and revised MRP should not cross the limit of increase in tax or tax applicable under GST (new tax). If there is reduction in tax,
the revised price should reflect the reduced tax amount. At least two advertisements should be published in newspapers and information should be circulated among dealers and concerned authorities should be informed about the change in prices.
Packaging materials or wrappers manufactured before GST amendment can be used for repackaging till 31 December 2025 or till the stock is exhausted (whichever is earlier). But the change in MSP should be clearly mentioned on it.
