Kabuli gram harvesting continues in Canada

Winnipeg. In Canada, Kabuli gram harvesting starts late as compared to peas and lentils in the pulse crop category and its initial pace is also slow.
Till last week, on an average 60-70 percent of pea-lentil crop had been harvested while Kabuli gram harvesting could reach only 8 percent in Saskatchewan province and 17 percent in Alberta province. Now, with the weather clearing, the pace of harvesting is expected to increase. Although,
there has been an increase in the sowing area of Kabuli gram during the current year as compared to last year and there are indications that the crop yield rate will also be higher than the normal average due to favorable weather, but the quality problem remains.
The quality of gram has been affected in those areas where harvesting and preparation of the crop was delayed due to bad weather. Its real picture will be revealed only after the complete harvesting of the crop.
Although this time there is talk of the yield rate of Kabuli gram reaching a high level of 40 bushels per acre, but this can be possible only in some places. Whether this is a rumor or truth - it will be known by the end of the current month.
The price of Kabuli gram of number 2 grade with large grains has been around 30-32 cents per pound for the last several weeks, in which the maximum share of 7 mm grain should be 10 percent and the minimum share of 9 mm grain size should be 20 percent.
Even at this weak price level, Kabuli gram is not being traded vigorously because its sufficient stock is present in other producing countries. Demand is being seen weak in importing countries.
