4. Mr. Sanjeev Chopra, Secretary, Department of Food & Public Distribution
★ Mr. Sanjeev Chopra said that in 2023, ethanol production from sugar was restricted, which was later allowed in controlled quantities in 2024, but in 2025 ethanol can be produced in any quantity.
★ The government also validated ISMA’s production estimate of 35 million tonnes of sugar.
★ He stated that many millers were involved in irregularities in sugar sales against monthly quota, but now this has been linked with GST.
★ From the coming weeks, no mill will be able to violate the monthly quota.
★ On the question of sugar export allocation for the upcoming season, he said the government will take a decision after reviewing the actual situation, weather, and production. Regarding the industry’s repeated demand to increase MSP, he added that the government will examine the situation and then decide.

★ While welcoming all the ministers present on the stage, Mr. Deepak Ballani said that the steps taken by the government have made the sugar industry happy, and expressed hope that the government will continue to extend similar support in the future.
