Maharashtra rainfall status: Mixed outlook for kharif crops
Period: June 1 – June 30, 2025 | Source: India Meteorological Department (IMD)
★ Rainfall patterns across Maharashtra during June 2025 present a mixed picture for the ongoing kharif sowing season:
~~~~~~
Excess rainfall:
★ Districts in Konkan and Western Maharashtra such as Kolhapur, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, and Sangli have received heavy rainfall, which is considered favorable for paddy, maize, and soybean cultivation.
~~~~~~
Normal rainfall:
★ Districts like Jalgaon, Buldhana, Ahmednagar, and Beed have seen normal rainfall, allowing timely sowing of crops.
~~~~~~
Deficient rainfall:
★ Districts in Vidarbha including Nagpur, Chandrapur, Amravati, and Akola have received below-normal rainfall, which may impact sowing of soybean, cotton, and pigeon pea (arhar).
~~~~~~
Large deficiency:
★ Regions like Parbhani, Solapur, Latur, and Osmanabad have recorded significant rainfall deficits, posing a serious challenge to kharif sowing.
~~~~~~
★ The kharif season in Maharashtra has started strong in some regions, while facing hurdles in others.
★ Timely government support and advisories on alternate crops may help mitigate the impact in deficit areas.
