Malaysian Palm Oil Production and Exports Rise in March

Kuala Lumpur: Malaysia recorded a sharp rise in palm oil production in March 2025, compared to February, according to the Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB).

Production of crude palm oil (CPO) surged by 16.76% to 13,87,193 tonnes in March. This recovery followed earlier disruptions caused by floods and waterlogging during November–December 2024. The longer month also contributed to the production boost.

Despite a 0.91% increase in exports to 10,05,547 tonnes, Malaysia’s total palm oil stock rose by 3.52% to 15,62,586 tonnes by the end of March. Notably, CPO stock fell by 5.68% to 7,79,233 tonnes, while refined palm oil stocks rose by 14.63% to 7,83,353 tonnes.

Malaysia, unlike Indonesia, promotes crude palm oil exports, whereas Indonesia focuses on processed palm oil. Meanwhile, palm kernel oil stock dipped slightly by 2.17% to 2,70,437 tonnes.

Imports into Malaysia jumped 82.51% to 1,21,886 tonnes, contributing to higher closing stock levels. Malaysia’s largest export market for palm oil remains India.

With stocks building and prices still not competitive with soybean and sunflower oil, some downward pressure on CPO futures at the BMD Exchange is expected.
