Monsoon rain more than normal average

New Delhi. Data from the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) shows that during the week ending on August 27, there was 37 percent more rainfall than the normal average at the national level, which is the highest after mid-June. The previous week also, there was more rainfall than the normal average.
It is noteworthy that during the first fortnight of August, the movement and intensity of the monsoon had decreased, due to which there was less rainfall in the country, but it was compensated by excessive rainfall in the second half.
According to the Meteorological Department, during August 20 to 27, the country received 71.6 mm rainfall, which was 37 percent more than the normal average of 52.3 mm.
During the week under review, there was excessive rain in the western coast and central part of the country, due to which its total level increased.
During this period, 95.7 mm rainfall was recorded in the northwestern region, which was 142 percent more than the normal average of 39.5 mm.
Similarly, the central part of the country received 79.08 mm rainfall which was 35 percent more than the normal average.
On the other hand, the total rainfall in the southern peninsula fell by 46 percent to 22 mm compared to the normal average and in the eastern and northeastern states it fell by 10 percent to 69.2 mm.
There are a total of 36 meteorological subdivisions in the country, out of which 10 received very heavy rainfall. Out of these, six subdivisions are located in northwestern India.
Apart from this, excessive rainfall was recorded in six subdivisions and normal rainfall in 5 subdivisions. On the other hand, 10 meteorological subdivisions received less than normal rainfall and 5 subdivisions received very less rainfall. This is the data for the week of August 20-27.
According to the Meteorological Department, during 1 June to 27 August, the country received a total of 704.5 mm rainfall which was 5 percent more than the normal average of 672.1 mm. The monsoon rain is still continuing in many areas of the country.
