New Delhi. The withdrawal of South-West monsoon from the western state of the country- Rajasthan started from 14th September itself whereas the Meteorological Department had fixed its date as 17th September.
According to the Meteorological Department, during the current monsoon season, a total of 840.3 mm rainfall was recorded at the national level which is about 7 percent more than the long period average (LPA) of 790.1 mm.
Heavy rainfall may occur in some states even during the withdrawal of monsoon. The spell of rain is still continuing in many districts of Bihar and Uttar Pradesh.
According to the Meteorological Department, monsoon has departed from western Rajasthan whereas it is likely to depart from Punjab and Gujarat in the next few days.
Between 1st June and 14th September 2025, western Rajasthan received 75 percent more rainfall than the normal average but there was negligible rainfall during 11-14th September.
This gives a clear indication of the departure of monsoon. A statement from the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) said that conditions have become favourable for the departure of the southwest monsoon from some other parts of Rajasthan, while it may also depart from Punjab and Gujarat in the next 2-3 days.
The statement said that an anti-cyclonic circulation is present about one and a half kilometers above the mean sea level in western Rajasthan and there has been no rainfall there during the last five days.
Apart from this, the amount of moisture in the atmosphere has decreased up to the middle troposphere in that area. The line of departure of the monsoon is currently passing through Sri Ganganagar, Nagaur, Jodhpur and Barmer.
During June 1 to September 14, the eastern and northeastern regions of the country received 20 percent less rainfall than the normal average,
but the northwestern part received 32 percent, the central region 11 percent and the southern peninsula 8 percent more rainfall, due to which severe floods were seen there.
