More rain likely in southern states

Thiruvananthapuram. Tamil Nadu, Pondicherry, and Karaikal received normal to heavy rain recently, and the Meteorological Department expects more rainfall in these areas in the coming days.
A pre-monsoon trough, along with atmospheric circulation, is active across the eastern coast from Odisha to coastal Andhra Pradesh and has now shifted westward, extending from southern Rajasthan to the Gulf of Mannar.
Due to this, scattered light to moderate rain, thunderstorms, and strong winds are likely in Tamil Nadu, Pondicherry, Karaikal, coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, Rayalaseema, Telangana, and Karnataka over the next five days.
Light rain is also expected in Kerala and Mahi, where pre-monsoon showers have already been significant.
This weather shift is linked to a cooling western disturbance that moved across the India-Pakistan border, turning the cloud trough southward.
Earlier, it had caused rainfall in northern and eastern India. Now, the disturbance is active over the southern peninsula.
Meanwhile, a powerful western disturbance has started impacting the Himalayan region. Between April 18 and 20, rain,
hunderstorms, hailstorms, and even snowfall are expected in Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, and Himachal Pradesh.
