New Delhi. In the Annual General Meeting of the Central Organization for Oil Industry and Trade (COOIT), the apex organization of the indigenous vegetable oil industry and trade sector, questions being raised about the production estimate of mustard in the country during the 2024-25 season and the inconvenience caused by packing mustard oil (other edible oils as well) in different pack sizes were discussed in depth and detail.
In view of the record-breaking rise in mustard oil prices during the current year, it started being discussed that the estimate of 111 lakh tonnes of mustard production made by Coet in the Rabi Oilseeds Seminar is not correct.
Since Anil Chatar, a reputed businessman of Jaipur and Managing Director of Marudhar Trading Agency, is the convener of Coet's crop committee,
he was accused of wrongly estimating crop production. Such misleading information started coming on fake WhatsApp that in the Rabi season of 2024-25, not more than 90 lakh tonnes of mustard was produced and hence the price of mustard seed and mustard oil started jumping rapidly and reaching the top level.
Such fabricated data created a situation of misunderstanding or dilemma in the mustard business and despite being innocent, Anil Chatar was especially targeted.
Anil Chatar was so hurt by this false and fabricated allegation that he stopped giving his report related to the arrival of mustard in the country, crushing and surplus stock every month.
This matter was raised in the meeting of the Executive Committee of KOAT in Delhi on 13 September. The fact was accepted unanimously that due to the discontinuation of Anil Chatar's monthly report,
crushers-processors and traders are facing great difficulty and confusion has been created in the mustard sector. 50 members from Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Delhi were present in the meeting of KOAT and all of them appreciated Anil Chatar's special contribution in the mustard business and requested him to continue his monthly report.
Everyone believed that Anil Chatar's monthly report acts as a mirror for the mustard market. Seeing the strong request of all the members, Anil Chatar finally agreed to continue his monthly report.
Mustard entrepreneurs and traders are angry that the government is delaying in implementing the rule of keeping the packing size of mustard oil uniform.
The existence of small units of mustard oil has come under threat due to the delay in implementing the law of uniform packing. All the members of KOAT strongly demanded from the government to implement the rule of packing size prevalent before the year 2022 as soon as possible.
