Sesame Seed Exports Decline
★ India exported 57,596 MT of sesame seeds during Q1 2026, down 22% compared to the same period last year. Export earnings also fell sharply by 32% to USD 91.0 million. The average export price declined by about 13%, putting additional pressure on overall export revenues. Russia, Vietnam, and China emerged as the leading destinations for Indian sesame seeds during the quarter.

Sesame Oil Exports Show Growth
★ In contrast, sesame oil exports performed strongly. During January–March 2026, exports increased by 11% year-on-year to 2,528 MT, while export value rose 15% to USD 8.03 million.
★ The average export price also improved by around 4%, reflecting steady demand in international markets. The United States remained the largest importer of Indian sesame oil, supported by growing consumer preference for healthy and premium edible oils.
★ The stronger performance of sesame oil compared to sesame seeds highlights the growing demand for value-added agricultural products. Going forward, sesame oil exports are likely to receive continued support from rising global demand, while the outlook for sesame seed exports will depend largely on international demand trends and price movements.
