News Capsule: India’s Rice Exports Rise, but Stockpile in Central Pool Raises Concern
★ As of December 1, rice stocks in the central pool stood at 57.57 million tonnes.
★ This is well above the buffer norm of 7.6 million tonnes as of January 1, and represents a 12% increase compared to the same period last year.
★ Procurement of paddy increased as open market prices remained below the MSP.
★ The ban on rice exports was lifted in March 2025. From January to November, rice exports rose to 18.5 million tonnes, 37% higher than the same period last year.
★ According to the Rice Exporters Association, India’s rice exports could reach 22.5 million tonnes in 2025, about 25% higher than last year.
★ As per APEDA, during April to October, India exported 8.277 million tonnes of non-basmati rice and 3.59 million tonnes of basmati rice.
