ICE cotton futures closed Friday with gains of 89 to 199 points. The July contract rose 483 points for the week, while December gained 398 points. The US Dollar Index increased by 0.146 to 98.065, while crude oil fell by $2.57 to $102.50.
For the week ending April 28, managed money added 3,891 contracts to their net long position in cotton futures and options, bringing it to 38,355 contracts.
Export Sales data showed cotton export commitments at 10.691 million running bales, which is 2% lower than last year. This represents 95% of USDA’s export projection and trails the 102% 5-year average pace.
The Seam reported sales of 5,415 bales on April 30 at an average price of 73.63 cents per pound. The Cotlook A Index fell by 50 points on April 30 to 89.05 cents. ICE certified cotton stocks increased by 1,585 bales to 167,266 bales. The Adjusted World Price rose by 40 points to 65.66 cents per pound.
