The quarterly Flour Milling report from NASS showed that 222.4 million bushels of wheat were used for flour production from January through March, down 4.2 million bushels from the same period last year.
CFTC data indicated that managed money shifted back to a net long position in CBT wheat futures and options, reaching 10,664 contracts—an increase of 21,381 contracts. In KC wheat, speculators increased their net long by 2,615 contracts to 30,624 contracts.
Weekly Export Sales data showed total wheat export commitments at 24.859 million metric tons, which is 15% higher than last year. This equals 102% of USDA’s export projection and is in line with the 5-year average.
