USDA reported a private export sale of 148,240 metric tons of corn this morning, including 78,240 MT for old crop and 70,000 MT for new crop to an unknown destination.
According to NASS monthly Grain Crush data, 474.4 million bushels of corn were used for ethanol production in March. This was 10.2% higher than February and 4.76% above last year. Total corn crush for the current marketing year has reached 3.225 billion bushels, which is 20 million bushels higher than the same period last year.
Weekly CFTC data showed that for the week ending April 28, managed money added 79,697 contracts to their net long position in corn futures and options, taking the total net long to 264,103 contracts. Meanwhile, commercial traders added 89,919 contracts to their net short position, bringing it to 554,336 contracts.
Export Sales data showed total corn export commitments at 75.7 million metric tons as of April 23, which is 29% higher than last year. This represents 90% of USDA’s export projection, compared to the 93% average pace.
