No Change in MRP of BT Cotton Seeds

New Delhi: The Union Ministry of Agriculture has made no changes to the Maximum Retail Price (MRP) of BT cotton seeds for the 2026-27 season,

maintaining it at the same price level as the 2025-26 season. Consequently, the MRP for Bollgard II (BG-II) cotton seeds will remain fixed at ₹900 per packet (450 grams), while the price for Bollgard I will remain stable at ₹635 per packet.

It is noteworthy that the Ministry of Agriculture announces the MRP for BT cotton seeds annually. Under this mechanism, the price is sometimes increased, while at other times, it is maintained at the previous level.

It is pertinent to recall that last year, the government had raised the MRP of BG-II cotton seeds from ₹864 per packet to ₹900 per packet. As for BG-I seeds, their MRP has remained constant at ₹635 per packet since 2016.

The season for early sowing of cotton has already commenced in Punjab, Haryana, and Rajasthan, whereas sowing is scheduled to begin in June in other states, such as Gujarat, Maharashtra, and Telangana.
