No Circular Issued on Duty-Free Pea Imports
★ As before, pea imports will now be subject to high import duties along with a Minimum Import Price (MIP) of ₹200 per kg.
★ The import of these peas will be allowed only through Kolkata Port.
★ In 2024, 30 lakh tonnes of peas were imported, with around 9-10 lakh tonnes currently available at ports.
★ Only those peas with a Bill of Lading (BL) date of February 28, 2025, or earlier will be allowed for import, and they must arrive at the port by March 31, 2025.
★ According to I-Grain India, the market for peas and other pulses had already surged due to this news.
★ A slight price increase is expected, and if prices rise further, the government may take some decision regarding pea imports.
