Over 4.77 Lakh Tonnes of Castor Oil Exported in the First Eight Months

Mumbai. Data compiled by the Solvent Extractors Association of India (SEA) shows that a total of 477,409 tons of castor oil was exported from the country during the first eight months of the current calendar year, i.e., January-August 2025. Typically, the highest exports are from December to June, and the volumes decline thereafter.

According to SEA's report, India exported 40,592 tons of castor oil in August 2025, significantly lower than the shipments of 49,473 tons in August 2024 and 56,479 tons in August 2023.

Compared to the year 2024, the export of castor oil from India during 2025 fell from 53,204 tonnes in January to 52,926 tonnes, from 65,663 tonnes to 58,092 tonnes in February, from 72,801 tonnes to 63,373 tonnes in April, from 89,786 tonnes to 68,982 tonnes in May,

from 59,737 tonnes to 56,412 tonnes in June and from 49,473 tonnes to 40,592 tonnes in August. On the other hand, it improved from 65,170 tonnes in March to 65,326 tonnes and increased from 47,387 tonnes to 49,928 tonnes in July.

According to the association, there has been an upward trend in the export of castor oil for the last three years. During the entire period of 2022 (January-December), 5,82,399 tonnes of castor oil was shipped from the country, which increased to 6,29,418 tonnes in 2023 and improved to 6,49,510 tonnes in 2024. However, its export performance is weak in 2025.

Data from the Union Agriculture Ministry shows that at the national level, the area under castor oil has increased by 88 thousand hectares from 7.64 lakh hectares last year to 8.52 lakh hectares this time.

In Gujarat, the major producing state, its area under castor oil has increased from 5.80 lakh hectares to 6.45 lakh hectares. An increase in area is also reported in Rajasthan.
