Pea Harvest Gains Momentum in North America
★ At the start of the week, 1% of Canada’s total pea crop and 12% of the U.S. crop had been harvested.
★ This has brought 29,000 metric tons of new peas in Canada and 94,400 metric tons in the United States.
★ Initial yield and quality reports from Saskatchewan and Manitoba are being described as excellent.

Green Lentils Remain Under Pressure
★ International green lentil markets ended the week with a weaker tone, while red lentil prices remained steady.
★ Reports of reduced lentil production in Russia are impacting export markets.
★ Normally, Russian peas and lentils are sold at a discount to Canadian, but last week their prices were almost the same.
★ Canadian green lentil prices have been falling continuously — large green lentils are down 25% since early May and 37% lower compared to the start of the 2024-25 marketing year. Increased production is expected to keep further downward pressure on green lentil prices.

New Crop Impact on Chickpea Markets
★ Global chickpea markets closed the week on a mixed note, with the proximity of new crop supplies in Canada and the U.S. influencing sentiment.
★ Prices for large-caliber kabuli chickpeas remained mostly unchanged through the week, but prices for 9mm and smaller sizes softened in both grower and inter-dealer markets.
★ Processors and farmers in western Canada are optimistic about yields and grain size in early fields. According to Saskatchewan Agriculture, as of August 4, no fields had been harvested or were ready for harvest.
