Saskatoon. There is a good amount of previous stock of peas in Canada, while production is expected to be better in the current season of 2025-26. This will lead to a huge increase in supply and availability there and due to the lack of increase in exports accordingly, there may be a huge surplus stock of peas at the end of the marketing season.
There will be a huge stock of peas in Canada for export, but due to the global market conditions not being very favorable, it will face difficulty in increasing shipments.
This time the average yield rate of peas has been very high in many parts of Canada, which has surprised farmers and trade analysts as well.
There was an increase in the sowing area of peas and now a huge increase in the yield rate is being seen. In view of the possibility of excellent production, there is a lot of pressure on the prices of peas in top producing provinces like Saskatchewan and Alberta.
According to critics, the pea crop developed very well due to late season rains in the central and northern regions of the grain belt of the Prairie division and normal weather in summer. The rating of the crop often decreases during the progress stage, but this time the trend of improvement continued.
It is noteworthy that the government agency - Stats Can had earlier estimated the average yield rate of peas to be 36.6 bushels per acre, but analysts say that this is a very small estimate.
The average yield rate of peas can be at least 40 bushels per acre or above. In some areas, producers say that the yield rate of peas has been obtained from 40 bushels at the bottom to 60 bushels per acre at the top.
On this basis, during the current marketing season of 2025-26 in Canada, the production of 30 lakh tonnes of yellow peas, 5.50 lakh tonnes of green peas and 2 lakh tonnes of other categories of peas stands. Apart from this, a surplus stock of 5.44 lakh tonnes of peas was also left from the 2024-25 season.
The outstanding stock increased due to the weak export performance of peas since November 2024. The total availability of peas in Canada in the 2025-26 marketing season can be more than 40 lakh tonnes, while its export is likely to be around 22 lakh tonnes.
According to an analyst, if China removes the 100 percent import duty imposed on Canadian peas and India does not decide to impose customs duty on peas, then the export of peas from Canada can reach 22 lakh tonnes in the 2025-26 season.
