Pea prices stable in Canada amid limited trade

Regina. Pea prices remain calm and stable in western Canada, with buyers purchasing only in small volumes to meet immediate needs.
Major export markets like China and India have influenced this trend. China imposed a 100% import duty on Canadian peas from March 20, while India has allowed duty-free import of yellow peas until May 31, 2025.
Yellow peas are trading between $9.50–$10.00 per bushel, with the higher end price seen in southeastern Saskatchewan for a special variety used in protein production, subject to specific producer conditions.
Green peas are drawing some buyer interest, keeping prices steady at $16.50 per bushel, though new crop contract prices have dipped to $12.50–$13.00 per bushel.
While sporadic sowing of peas has begun in Canada, uncertainty in major export markets is dampening farmer interest in expanding cultivation.
