Procurement of Pulses:
The Government of India has, so far this year, procured 3,40,000 tonnes of tuar (pigeon pea) under the Price Support Scheme (PSS).
Karnataka accounted for the highest procurement at 1.3 lakh tonnes, where farmers were given a state bonus of ₹450 per quintal above the Minimum Support Price (MSP).
The Ministry has approved a total procurement of 13.22 lakh tonnes of tuar from nine states, while the government's target is to build a buffer stock of 10 lakh tonnes.
Procurement of chana stands at 17,000 tonnes so far, with the main contributing states being Telangana and Madhya Pradesh.
Though approval has been given for the procurement of 27 lakh tonnes of chana this year, the pace has been slow because domestic prices are currently above the MSP of ₹5,650 per quintal.
Procurement of Lentil has reached 28,700 tonnes and Mung stands at 3,000 tonnes.
These procurement figures are as of April 13.
Procurement has not occurred at the expected scale; the lower the government procurement, the more the market will function based on actual supply and demand.
