New Delhi. Heavy rains and severe floods in all major rivers in Punjab, the state which contributes the most food grains to the central pool, have caused massive damage to Kharif crops, houses, shops and other infrastructure. So far, 46 people have been reported dead in the state due to the floods and rains.

The situation is so bad that the Punjab government has declared all 23 districts of the state as flood-affected areas and relief and rescue work is being carried out vigorously there. The Prime Minister himself is going to visit Punjab tomorrow i.e. on 9 September to take stock of the situation.

The Union Agriculture Minister has already visited the flood-affected areas of Punjab. Last week, he had said that he would submit a detailed report to the Prime Minister about the flood situation in Punjab. The flood crisis in the state is really serious but the Central Government is ready to provide all possible help to it. No stone will be left unturned to help Punjab overcome this difficult situation. The Agriculture Minister had visited the flood-affected villages of Amritsar, Kapurthala and Gurdaspur districts.

According to the Agriculture Minister, the situation in Punjab is very bad and terrible. The crops in the fields are completely submerged in water and are getting destroyed. At least 1400 villages are in the grip of floods. The fields are filled with water since 26 August, which is destroying various crops.

The water of the Ravi river is still flowing through the fields. Under the feet, instead of soil, debris is visible, in which it is difficult for the crops to survive. According to the Agriculture Minister, this destruction of fields is likely to have a serious adverse effect on the crops of the upcoming Rabi season.

It is difficult to estimate the pain and loss of the people. There is a heart-rending atmosphere there. The situation is extremely challenging but all kinds of help will be provided to the state.

In Punjab, the Sutlej, Ravi, Beas and Ghaggar rivers broke their embankments and reached the fields and villages and cities, which increased the scope of damage.

The Central Government has already sent two high level teams to Punjab to take stock of the entire situation while now the Prime Minister is going to visit there.
