Rabi crops damaged due to rain and hailstorm in many parts of Rajasthan

It seems that the recent weather disturbances in Rajasthan, particularly the hailstorms and rains, have caused significant concern for farmers, especially for the Rabi crops like mustard, barley, and wheat.
This is particularly alarming since Rajasthan is a major producer of these crops, and any damage could lead to a reduction in expected yields for the current season.
The Rajasthan Agriculture Department's estimate of 55.57 lakh tonnes of mustard production could be at risk due to this unexpected weather event.
While rain and thunderstorms typically do not cause as much damage, hailstorms have a much higher potential for crop destruction, especially in the vulnerable stages of growth.
As a result, the state government has already ordered an official survey to assess the extent of the damage and provide a clearer picture of the impact on crop yields.
Given that Rajasthan is one of the top contributors to the central wheat pool and that additional support has been announced by the central government (an extra Rs 125 per quintal for wheat above MSP), farmers are hoping for timely intervention and relief to mitigate their losses.
However, the final production numbers may vary depending on how much damage has occurred, which will be confirmed after the damage survey.
This situation underscores the vulnerability of agriculture to unpredictable weather patterns, and the need for effective disaster management and compensation systems to support farmers during such times
