Relief to farmers due to early arrival of monsoon in Telangana

Hyderabad. After a gap of three years, the early arrival of the southwest monsoon in Telangana is providing much-needed relief to farmers. Monsoon rains have already begun in many parts of the state, aiding the timely sowing of Kharif crops, especially in rain-fed areas.

Paddy and cotton are the primary crops cultivated during the Kharif season in Telangana, along with pulses, oilseeds, and coarse grains.

According to reports, farmers in the state have started sowing cotton, maize, and urad. However, they may wait a few more days to transplant paddy, as adequate water accumulation in the fields is necessary for that process. Paddy nurseries have already been prepared, but the plants are not yet ready for transplantation.

The Meteorological Department has predicted light to moderate rain or thundershowers across various parts of Telangana over the next four days.

This rainfall will help increase soil moisture, making it easier for farmers to continue sowing Kharif crops, excluding paddy for now.

During this period, the maximum temperature in the state is expected to drop by 5 to 7 degrees Celsius below the seasonal average.

Heavy rainfall is also likely in several districts, including Vikarabad, Sangareddy, Medak, Kamareddy, Mahbubnagar, Nagarkurnool, Wanaparthy, Narayanpet, and Jogulamba Gadwal.

As a result, farmers will not have to wait long for sufficient monsoon rainfall to proceed with crop cultivation.

The Agriculture Commissioner has instructed officials to provide soil testing equipment to Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs) so that farmers can assess soil health.

Additionally, at least three farmers in every village have been asked to supply basic seeds to support timely and efficient cultivation.
