Mumbai. There is a good demand for Indian rice in the international market, while its supply and availability situation is also seen to be smooth in the domestic sector.
The global market price of rice has come down significantly and the competition among various supplier countries has increased significantly in the international market.
Rice is going from India to Bangladesh, due to which the price has started improving in eastern India and especially West Bengal, but the price remains stable in other parts of the country.
In Mumbai's Vashi wholesale market, the price of 1401 and 1121 category Basmati rice remained stable at Rs 7300-7400 per quintal and Rs 7800-8000 per quintal respectively on the previous day.
Similarly, there was no change in the price of 5 percent broken rice and it remained at the old level of Rs 3150 per quintal.
On the other hand, the price of premium quality non-basmati rice-Sona Masuri remained stable at Rs 4600 per quintal in Bhavani Puram Mandi of Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh, while earlier it was expected to increase a little.
There is ample stock of rice in government warehouses and hence some pressure is being seen on the prices. The government is selling rice under the Open Market Sale Scheme (OMSS) and has allocated 5 lakh tonnes of rice stock to its agencies to sell under the Bharat brand.
Rice is also being supplied to ethanol manufacturers and provincial governments from the central pool. The supply of new paddy and then rice will start from October. The price of rice is likely to remain stable in a certain range.
