Moscow. Due to the suspension of export duty for the month of August, there was a tremendous increase in the shipment of sunflower oil from Russia and hence the stock of sunflower seed is also expected to decrease to around 2 lakh tonnes.
About 47 lakh tonnes of sunflower oil was exported from Russia in the entire marketing season of 2023-24, which increased by 3 lakh tonnes to 50 lakh tonnes in the season of 2024-25.
It has been decided to impose export duty on sunflower oil in Russia at the rate of 5746.20 rubles or $ 71.8 per tonne and on sunflower oil meal at the rate of 1119.40 rubles or $ 13.91 per tonne for the month of September.
Sunflower oil for October delivery in Turkey is being traded at a price level of $ 1300 per tonne. There, the import duty on sunflower oil has been reduced from 36% to 30% and on sunflower seeds from 20% to 12%. The average price of sunflower oil in Egypt is said to be $12.80 per tonne.
Earlier, most of the sunflower oil was being imported from Ukraine and Argentina, but now Russia has gone far ahead of these two countries in terms of its supply. The reality is that Russia has now become the fourth largest country to supply edible oil to India after Indonesia, Argentina and Malaysia.
Along with sunflower oil, import of soybean oil has also started increasing from there. Sunflower crop in Russia is in good condition and its production is expected to be better there. Due to this, the export performance can be even better in the new season.
